Weichai Power releases China's first high-power high-pressure direct-injection natural gas engine

China Truck Network reported that on March 13, 2012, China's first high-power, high-pressure, direct-injection, compression-ignition natural gas engine (HPDI) was launched at Diaoyutai, Beijing. This technology innovation result was introduced by Weichai Power Westport New Energy Engine Co., Ltd., the first joint venture company in China to develop and produce in-cylinder direct injection natural gas engines. The successful development of this project fills the gap in the application of natural direct-injection engines in China, which will be a milestone in the history of natural gas engines in China.

The use of more advanced technologies to promote the production of green and environmentally friendly engines is the actual action of Weichai Power's implementation of the scientific concept of development. Over the years, Weichai Power has been committed to ecological civilization, and its level of technological research and development has been at the forefront of China's internal combustion engine industry. At the same time, Weichai Power is also the project undertaker of the Chinese government's new energy engine scientific and technological breakthroughs program. With strong production and technical capabilities, it has extensive cooperation with a number of internationally renowned companies in the field of new energy gas engines.

In 2008, Weichai Power Co., Ltd., together with Canada's Westport Innovation Corporation and Hong Kong Peixin Investment Co., Ltd., jointly signed a joint venture to establish Weichai Power Westport New Energy Engine Co., Ltd. The joint venture company owns the world's leading natural gas engine technology with high pressure and direct injection as its core. It integrates R&D, production and sales, and is committed to providing applications to China and international markets in heavy trucks, urban public transport, marine use, power generation, construction machinery and other fields. Natural gas engine products.

Combining Weichai's superior Bluegreen engine platform and the introduction of high-pressure direct injection technology from Westport, Canada, the joint venture company has developed with great concentration and finally succeeded in bringing China's leading high-pressure direct-injection natural gas engine to China. The engine uses natural gas as the main fuel, while ensuring the power, torque and efficiency of the original diesel engine, bringing a revolutionary technological innovation to the traditional spark plug ignition type natural gas engine.

The HPDI engine uses an oxidized catalytic converter. Before compression top dead center, 5% of diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder to ignite. 95% of natural gas is injected into the flame at a pressure of 300 bar to become the main fuel to do work, and thus particulate matter emissions are reduced. 70%, CO2 reduction of about 20%, to meet the national V emission standards. In order to achieve the national V emissions, diesel engines need to use the more expensive SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction Selective Catalytic Reduction System).

With the HPDI engine, the economic benefits are significant. First of all, the price of natural gas is lower than the price of diesel fuel. Secondly, the engine load control without throttling valve saves the fuel consumption. The high pressure direct injection nozzle can further improve the performance and reduce the fuel consumption, emissions and noise according to the common rail injection engine design. Therefore, the user's fuel cost can be greatly reduced.

As far as reliability is concerned, HPDI engine parts and diesel engines have high versatility, and there is no need to change the piston and engine body. Its operation mode is the same as that of a diesel engine, and the reliability is equivalent to that of a diesel engine with the same power. Due to the low temperature of the exhaust gas, there is potential for higher reliability. In addition, HPDI engines do not require air-fuel ratio control to avoid knock and fire. Its thermal load is also lower than spark plug ignition gas engines.

The HPDI engine maintains the same power and torque as the original diesel engine (WP12HPDI LanQing engine has a rated power of 480hp/2100rpm and a maximum torque of 1970N.m/1200 to 1500rpm), and its power is exactly the same as that of a diesel engine. The increase of engine power and torque by 20% can solve the problem of insufficient plateau power for ignited gas engines.

Weichai Power Westport said here that with the further implementation of China's energy conservation, environmental protection and energy diversification policies, high-pressure direct-injection natural gas engines will have an inestimable market prospect in China. At the same time, the company is committed to promoting the application of this technology to a wider range of natural gas engine platforms, thereby promoting the leap-forward development of China's natural gas engine technology.
