Michelin launches three new products at the Paris Motor Show

At the Paris Motor Show in 2012, Michelin presented for the first time three tires to consumers: MICHELINENERGYE-V for electric vehicles; MICHELINENERGY SAVER+ for almost all vehicles on the market; and MICHELINAGILIS+ for light commercial vehicles.

Although each tire is designed for a specific purpose and purpose, they all have one thing in common - some of the performance parameters that were originally opposed to each other have been improved in a tire, showing a comprehensive performance, such as: safety , high mileage, energy savings and many other aspects.

Michelin not only showed three new tires to the public for the first time, but also promised consumers that each tire has the most comprehensive performance. This is the MICHELINTotalPerformance - that is, the ability to design a variety of advanced technology tires to eliminate the user's performance deficiencies. Users can control driving conditions, increase fuel efficiency (or save energy for electric vehicles), and increase mileage by using Michelin tires.

MICHELINTotalPerformance is a strong brand promise for all types of Michelin tires.

For European tire consumers, this fall is a special moment because tires sold after November 1st must be tagged to show their objective information on three properties: wet road grip, energy savings, and external exercise noise. By rating tires in the above three properties, this new regulation will help increase customer expectations and promote improvements to the performance of commercial tires.

Since Michelin is committed to ensuring that its tires have more advantages than the three properties shown on the label, its performance standards for tires have gone far beyond industry implementation standards.

MICHELINTotalPerformance brings superior performance to the tire

In the exhibition hall of the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Michelin first presented the tire development strategy to the public. Its tires show comprehensive superior performance in different aspects, including vehicle safety, energy saving (reduced carbon emissions) and longer mileage in a variety of road conditions.

Tire is a distinctive product. It is carefully designed from a mixture of materials. It has to withstand millions of deformations during its use, and it also has to adapt to a variety of demanding driving conditions. E.g:

- When the car is traveling at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, the ground contact pedal parts can accelerate and brake the vehicle within 1 millisecond.

- When driving through a pit or climbing a road, certain areas of the tire will deform by more than 150%.

- When driving on the highway in the summer and the external temperature is 30°C, some parts of the tire run at 80°C.

- When the car turns to avoid obstacles, the outside of the tire will be able to withstand more than 500 kilograms of weight.

Certain tire properties are opposed to each other. To merge these conflicting performance parameters requires advanced technology and specific manufacturing and testing capabilities. And this is exactly what Michelin has:

- 350 different professionals participate in Michelin research and development, including researchers, engineers, developers, friction researchers (research on friction, lubrication and wear of interacting surfaces in relative motion), fluid mechanics experts, acousticians, and biology Agronomists, agronomists, metallurgists, and experimenters.

- 6,000 employees work in the R&D department.

- The Michelin Laboratory conducts 1.5 million measurements per year on materials and semi-finished products (rubber composites and alloys/textiles).

- Michelin invests 592 million euros in R&D each year.

Although safety is one of the most important properties of Michelin tyres, safe driving also requires drivers to be properly trained and clearly understand the various dangerous conditions on the road. In order to make the road safer, Michelin is assisting the FIA in launching an international advertising plan to promote the ten Golden Rules that make the road safer. This plan is part of the FIA's participation in the UN's Decade of Action for Road Safety.
