Experts suggest that while China is developing corn and wheat as raw materials to produce fuel ethanol, it should also vigorously develop fuel ethanol production technology using sugarcane as raw material to ease the shortage of per capita land resources in China. The reporter was informed that in the hope of the development of sugarcane fuel ethanol production technology throughout the country, Guangxi’s main sugarcane producing area, Guangxi, has accelerated its R&D progress. The Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which is the main research and development task of this technology, has recently achieved new breakthroughs.
According to Li Ruiyang, dean of the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the sugarcane new sugarcane variety, Sugarcane 22, which was developed by the institute, has recently been successful. The average sugarcane production per hectare increased to 121 tons, which is more than double that of ordinary sugar cane. Li Ruiyang and other researchers who worked on the development of this new product put forward the concept of “energy cane” at the beginning of research and development, and set the goal of using “energy sugar cane” to produce more than twice as much fuel ethanol as ordinary sugar cane. After solving the problems of fuel ethanol production technology and equipment, the key issue of sugar cane production has been placed in front of the research and development team, which is also the key to Guangxi's development of energy cane production of fuel ethanol. After repeated trials, they finally bred this new cane variety.
In order to solve the technical problems of ethanol waste treatment that have been plagued by enterprises for producing ethanol from sugar cane, the Agriculture Department of Guangxi District carried out a “quantitative field return” experiment in the key sugarcane producing areas such as Shangsi and Chongzuo. The current experiment has been successful. A complete use of technology is now being further summarized. It is understood that the implementation of this technology allows the sugarcane field to use less fertilizer, but instead returns the ethanol-laden solution containing large amounts of nutrients to the land. The "quantitative returning field" technology has been listed as a key promotion program in Guangxi by the Sugar Department of Guangxi Agriculture Department.
Judging from the current situation, 7.8 tons of sugar cane can produce one ton of sucrose, but the production of one ton of fuel ethanol requires about 13 tons of sugar cane and the cost is relatively high. And at present, the price of edible ethanol in our country is fluctuating around 4,500 yuan/ton, and the fuel ethanol price is only 3,300 yuan/ton, and the higher-priced edible ethanol market is in short supply. Therefore, the technical conditions for the development of sugarcane fuel ethanol in Guangxi can be said to have matured, but the market conditions are not yet available, which requires the adjustment of the country's macroeconomic policies.
