Toray develops polyester fiber with low dyeing energy consumption

Drying equipment

China Drying Network Co., Ltd. reported that Nikkei BP Co., Ltd. has recently developed a polyester long fiber POLYLOFTNP that can reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in the dyeing process, and plans to start sales in April 2013. Toray plans to achieve an annual sales volume of 50 tons in the first year and an annual sales volume of 500 tons three years later.

Polyester fibers are not easily colored and require the use of disperse dyes under high temperature and pressure conditions, while Toray developed in 1995 polyester long fibers “POLYLOFT” that can be dyed under atmospheric conditions. The new fiber developed this time will reduce the dyeing temperature to atmospheric pressure, reduce energy use by about 25% when dyeing, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 25%. In addition, it can be used in combination with natural fibers such as wool and cotton, which are reduced in strength when dyed at high temperature, and is bright in color, and is also less susceptible to discoloration and fading.
