Mitsubishi Electric's line cutting electric discharge machine for superhard material mold processing

Mitsubishi Electric has added the FA20PS-Advance (AquaSurface Specification), a high-precision wire-cut EDM machine for superhard material mold processing, to the "DIAX" series of EDM machines. It was launched on April 25, 2007. The new model adds a system to prevent corrosion of the mold surface based on the wire cutting machine "FA20PS-Advance", which was launched in November 2006. Therefore, it is possible to process a superhard material mold with high precision. The price is 25.6 million yen (excluding tax).

The new model "ASC: Aqua Surface Control" is designed to inactivate the surface of superhard materials and suppress corrosion by controlling the ion balance of the processing fluid. The system is currently equipped in the company's two high-precision wire-cut EDM machines (see our website). In general, when processing a superhard material mold, if it is processed for a long time, the surface of the mold will be corroded by the electrolysis of the working fluid to form a fine Microsoft layer with low hardness. This softening layer can shorten the life of the mold, so it is necessary to remove the processing and polishing work of the softened layer.

In addition to this, the new model is equipped with an NC device that supports 3D CAD data. The NC data can be automatically generated by directly reading the 3D CAD data design information (Parasolid format), and in addition to the inspection and preparation before the process, the processing conditions can be controlled according to the unevenness and shape of the workpiece. The machining accuracy is ±3μm.

The strokes in the X, Y, and Z directions are 500 mm, 350 mm, and 300 mm, respectively, and the maximum workpiece size is 1050 × 800 × 295 mm. The standard diameter of the wire is 0.05-0.3 mm, and an optional 0.05/0.07 mm wire can be provided.

By selecting "Digital-FS for ultra-fine processing", the surface finish can be Rz 0.4μm. The fine processing of the slits and the tiny inscribed arcs is achieved by the "fine electrode wire".

The company is scheduled to exhibit and demonstrate new models at INTERMOLD 2007 (Tokyo BigSight), April 25-28, 2007.
